“Be Good For Goodness Sake”
Our primary reason for doing good must be our concern to do God's will. "Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven." He is holy. He has established laws which reflect His nature, and He expects us to do what He says. The fear of getting caught and being punished for doing wrong is often an effective deterrent. However, for the believer in Christ this is not an acceptable reason for good conduct. It does not represent the kind of motivation that honors God. Someone once said "It's better to want to do right than to be afraid to do wrong." Often people are skilled at complaining about what they don't like about church, the minister or the music. Imagine if the church issued a report card on God's behalf about where you come up short. Try to be good!
