“Christianity Without The Cross”
The follower of the positive thinking gospel wants Christianity without the cross. They cannot look to the cross and dwell upon it for very long because it is uncomfortable for them. It is a symbol of arduous things like sorrow and sacrifice. If they glance at the cross at all, they don't see an instrument of unspeakable torture, which Our Lord in His victorious humility accepted and seized and then used as the ultimate weapon for good. Instead they see a "Get Out of Jail Free" card. They conclude that Jesus died not to free them from sin but to free them to sin. Christ says "Pick up your cross and follow me". We will not escape our own suffering. Just because Christ paid the price for our sin does not mean that we pay no price. We go to the cross with Him.
