“Church Is For The Birds”
The organizational church can be a very frustrating and discouraging place. The main reason is that it is populated by people. A pastor friend of mine once said "I found out what is wrong with the church. It is people. If it weren't for people the church would be wonderful!" However, when Jesus was talking about building "His" church he said, "I will build my church". He wasn't talking about bricks and mortar, he was referring to people. Ordinary people make up the church and ordinary people are called to leadership in the organized church. These people are called to become "The Body of Christ". They are lifted up by Christ for a purpose and prepared to do His work in the world. The church is a hospital for sinners not a haven for saints. The old hymn says "I am redeemed but not with silver, I am bought but not with gold, bought with a price - the blood of Jesus, precious price of love untold." A place for eagles who soar, not pigeons who roost.
