In his letter to the church at Corinth the Apostle Paul gives some specific instructions regarding the sacrament of Holy Communion.  It seems that the early church had turned this sacred time into a church supper instead of a religious experience.  This was missing the entire point of experiencing the presence of Christ in the elements and in the fellowship of believers.  It seems obvious they did not understand the precious meal they held in their hands.  There are many things in the church today which miss the point because of our desire to modernize or make "acceptable" the holy things of our faith.  When we realize it isn't what we think but

what the Word teaches and our tradition has taught us it will all be much more powerful to us.
