“Still Pilgrims After All These Years”
The parable of the prodigal son reminds us that we have a tendency to wander away from our Father who made us and loves us. But more than that, this story reminds us of God’s faithfulness, forgiveness, and compassion. When the son returned home, his father saw him from a distance and “ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him” Since our pilgrim forebearers arrived our culture has made a concerted effort to forget the power that brought us to this land and established our freedoms. However, we are still on the same journey and the force that called us here still compels us to move forward to a better land.
