“Waiting and Watching In Your Heart”
In those tough times when you have no clue which way to turn or if you are about to make the worst decision of your life do you ever long to be able to ask your Dad for advice? Before I learned one lesson in school or found wisdom in a teacher/professor my Dad was there for me. He was not all knowing or infallible, but there was a bond that made his opinions an essential component of any decision. In the Harry Potter series (Prisoner of Azkaban) J. K. Rowling has Dumbledore sharing this truth with young Harry: "You think the dead we loved ever truly leave us? You think that we don't recall them more clearly than ever in times of great trouble? Your father is alive in you, Harry, and shows himself most plainly when you have need of him." Father's Day is another time that we celebrate that powerful memory that is Dad. Always part of our DNA, our life experience, and waiting and watching in the depths of our being to reveal that he is still there for us. The gift from God we call Dad.
